Brandon High School senior Laura Kwiatkowski, who won the previous three Flint Metro League girls golf tournaments, just missed out in her bid for a fourth.
Linden’s Katae Iordanou shot an 82 to edge out Kwiatkowski and Lapeer West’s Jaquee Benscoter by one stroke for the individual top score at the tournament, which took place May 10 at Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden.
As a team, the Blackhawks finished fifth in the tournament with a team score of 427. Linden won the tournament with a team score of 391, four shots better than second-place Fenton.
Despite their fifth-place finish at the tourney, the Blackhawks wound up with a third-place finish overall in the Flint Metro League. League standings are determined using a point system which takes into consideration teams? performances in league dual meets as well as preseason and postseason league tournaments.
Brandon, which compiled a 5-1 record in dual meet action this season, finished third in the league with 24 points, two points behind second-place Linden. Fenton won the league with 34 points.
In addition to Kwiatkowski’s performance, Abby Galey shot a 104 for the Blackhawks, while Rebecca Scherer finished at 111 and Rachel Hartwig at 128.
