Helping people see clearly and keep their eyes healthy requires optometrists to stay on the cutting edge of technology.
Walton & Becker Eyecare, P.C. in Oxford is no exception.
The 40-year-old optometric practice is now on-line at www.waltonandbecker.com.
From biographies of Drs. Theodore B. Walton and Elizabeth Becker to complete descriptions of the wide variety of services they offer, the website details everything you need to know about the well-respected and established practice Oxford area resident have trusted for decades.
The website even allows current patients of Drs. Walton & Becker to purchase any and all contact lenses on-line.
‘You have to stay competitive and make things convenient for customers,? Dr. Walton said.
One-day and two-week disposable, toric, bifocal, tinted, gas permeable and the innovative 30-day continuous wear lenses ? they’re all available at www.waltonandbecker.com.
‘You can have them shipped right to your home or our office for pickup,? Dr. Walton said.
Drs. Walton & Becker are also on the cutting edge of eyeglass technology when it comes to offering an advanced new type of progressive lens which addresses what has been know as ‘high-order aberrations? in vision. The new design has ‘wavefront advanced vision enhancement.? It incorporates technology developed for laser surgery which corrects vision by identifying and eliminating many surface distortions.
‘It’s a big breakthrough in lens design,? said Dr. Walton.
Progressives allow those suffering from presbyopia ? the eyes natural loss of the ability to focus up close after age 40 ? to see better without using ‘readers,? getting two pairs of prescription glasses or wearing bifocals.
Quality progressives allow you to see clearly in all fields of vision ? far away, mid-range, up close and low light ? with no hard divisions in the lens like those in bifocals.
Quality progressives, such as the new Varilux Physio and 360 designs by Essilor, allow the wearer to move seamlessly from one field to the next with fewer head or eye movements and gives unsurpassed sharpness and comfort in progressive vision correction.
Drs. Walton & Becker said the new progressives are perfect for all those patients who have 20/20 or better vision yet still complain ‘I don’t see as well as I used to? or ‘It’s not clear.?
Dr. Becker said some of these complaints are due to natural aging, some are because of lasik surgery and some are because people have too many different lens powers in a single pair of glasses.
‘This progressive lens won’t solve all those problems, but it’s the start of a new generation of lenses,? she said. ‘It eliminates the need for owning a couple of different kinds of glasses.?
For customers searching for the perfect pair of cutting edge polarized sunglasses, Drs. Walton & Becker now carry ‘Maui Jim Sunglasses.?
‘They’re the world’s best sunglasses,? Dr. Walton said. ‘Superb tinted lenses. Extremely high quality.?
From ready-made sunglasses for people who don’t wear glasses or contacts to single vision and progressive prescription lenses, there’s a pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses just right for you.
Walton said they used to give Maui Jim Sunglasses to guests in upper class hotels and at the end of their stay, they could either turn them in or purchase the pair.
‘Ninety percent bought them ? they’re that good,? he said. ‘They come with lifetime warranties.?
Your eyes are definitely in the best hands with Drs. Walton & Becker because behind all the state-of-the-art technology and advanced services there are two experienced, knowledgable and caring people dedicated to helping you see life more clearly.

Walton & Becker Eyecare, P.C.
Optometrists Drs. Theodore Walton and Elizabeth Becker have good news for folks who’ve always had trouble seeing clearly using eyeglasses.
‘There’s a quiet revolution going on in the way glasses are made,? Dr. Becker said.
That revolution is called Digital Surfacing and its a relatively new process whereby manufacturers can create thinner lenses with less distortions (or faults) in them.
‘They’re remarkable,? said Dr. Walton.
Over the years, many patients have come through the doors at Walton & Becker Eyecare, P.C. in Oxford complaining, ‘I’ve never been able to see well out of any glasses.?
This is due to peripheral distortions in their eyes and in the lenses themselves.
Right now, there exists a new process for measuring individual eye distortions, but to date there’s no way to manufacture a lens that will uniformly neutralize it, according to Drs. Walton and Becker.
However, the doctors were quick to point out that could easily change in the near future due to rapid advances in eyecare industry.
For now, Digital Surfacing gives manufacturers the amazing ability to remove or minimize the aberrations normally created in lenses via the manufacturing process.
Removing or minimizing these aberrations from the lens enables people who have always had problems with eyeglasses ? and refractive/laser surgery patients experiencing distortions as a side-effect ? to finally experience a higher quality of vision.
‘It’s not solving everything, but it’s a nice improvement,? Becker said.
Digital Surfacing has primarily been used in progressive lenses (no-line bifocals), but it’s starting to show up in single vision lenses as well, according to Dr. Walton.
As always, Walton & Becker offers a wide assortment of contact lenses and eyeglasses to meet virtually every need, want, taste, comfort level and budget. They also carry the Maui Jim line of sunglasses, which now offers a ready-made bifocal lens.
Dr. Becker announced more good news for eyeglass wearers ? style and comfort are making a come back.
‘Frames are getting a little more exciting again, a little bit more fun,? she said.
Different colors and shapes are ‘in? again as well as a wider range of sizes to fit a variety of head shapes.
‘We’re not all the same shape,? Dr. Becker said.
For those who prefer contact lenses, Walton & Becker offers a complete line that includes one-day and two-week disposables, toric, bifocal, tinted, gas permeable and 30-day continuous wear lenses.
Despite the state’s economic woes, Dr. Walton and Becker’s practice continues to thrive and grow due to the fact that they offer comprehensive, professional eyecare, which includes a full range of services.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, Drs. Walton & Becker provide complete eye examinations for the whole visual system (the connection between the eyes and brain which allows the latter to read and process images), not just a patient’s vision.
By examining the eye and visual system, Drs. Walton & Becker can diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the eye.
Treatments include, but are not limited to glaucoma, eye infections, allergies and non-invasive surgery such as removal of superficial foreign bodies from the eye. An eye examination may also lead to the detection of systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure).
Patients suffering from permanent vision loss resulting in low vision can receive rehabilitation services from Dr. Becker, a certified low vision specialist.
