Lakefront workshop coming

Oakland County Commissioner Eric Wilson and Michigan State University Extension Services will present a Lakefront Workshop at Orion Township Hall on Feb. 23, 7-9 p.m.
Lakefront property owners have a special responsibility to understand how activities that take place on or around their property can affect water quality.
Participants will learn the principles of lakescaping for wildlife, and water quality. Look at several sample lakefront landscape plans, and learn what a native plant buffer is, and how it can reduce geese problems.
You will also learn the plants used to create them, where they can be obtained locally, and how to start your own native plant buffer project.
Environmentally friendly lawncare practices especially designed for lake property owners will also be covered, as well as stewardship opportunities such as volunteer lake monitoring.
The workshop is free. To reserve a space, call (248) 858-5198, or email bhaktabi@msu.edu.
Among the presenters will be Howard Wendell, MSU Lake and Stream Management specialist, and Tracie Beasley, CRWC Stewardship Director.
