Governor doesn’t commute sentence

In November of 2005, The Lake Orion Review ran a series of stories about Larry Drum, who is serving a life sentence under the ?650 lifer law? in the Michigan Corrections Department for having over 650 grams of cocaine.
Drum’s mother, Ione Drum, lives in Lake Orion.
Though the law used to convict and sentence Drum has been repealed, he recently learned that he will not get his sentence commuted.
Governor Jennifer Granholm sent Drum a letter indicating his request had been denied.
The letter was not signed by Granholm, but by deputy legal counsel for her.
An event was being held in Lansing on Feb. 14 to generate citizen participation and to support legislation by Senator Bill McConico of Detroit, calling for the review of 650-lifer law inmates.
