Oakview Middle School students heard their new fight song, and met a new mascot, at a pep assembly on Jan. 27.
The assembly was the culmination of the school’s spirit week.
A new costume for the school mascot, a dog named Homer, was unveiled, as was Homer’s new adult-sized Dragon companion.
The new Dragon mascot was played by an unnamed eighth grade student, and the school’s next task is to name the Dragon.
Students also learned the words to the new school song, met their various teams and watched the cheerleaders perform a routine.
In addition, there were pride competitions for each grade level. The sixth graders did a banner competition, the seventh graders participated in a cheer competition, and the eight graders made floats.
Track and field coach Carl Zoolkoski presented plaques to two former Oakview students, now freshmen at LOHS, Doug Mack and Courtney Zott.
Last year Mack was county 2-mile champion, and Zott the high jump champ.
