Weber, March lead Goodrich grapplers at Chippewa Valley

Goodrich’s varsity wrestling team made a good showing, both as a team and individually, at the Chippewa Valley Team Tournament Saturday, Jan. 28.
Two Goodrich wrestlers went 5-0 on the day and two more Martians went 4-1, as the team went 3-2 at the tournament. However, one of Goodrich’s losses was a 31-31 tie against Dearborn Fordson, in which the Tractors won on a tiebreaker.
Goodrich defeated Hazel Park 54-19, Utica Ford 48-27 and Warren Mott 41-30, while the Martians? other loss of the day came against Warren Cousino by a score of 39-33.
The Martians are now 17-7 overall and 5-3 in Genesee Area Conference action.
The Martians? Mark Weber and Kyle March each went undefeated at 5-0 that day, while David Garr and Grant Overcashier went 4-1. Drew Weil, Nick Gatchell, Kyler Elsworth and Joe Hopkins all went 3-2 for the Martians.
Against Hazel Park,March (189) earned a pinfall in 5:36; Overcashier (130) won in 1:20; and Nick Lovell (140) won in 1:35.
In addition, Tim Burr (171) won a 17-5 decision; Garr (103) won a 16-0 decision; and Gatchell (135) won a 7-3 decision. Elsworth (152), Hopkins (160), Weber (112) and Brian Grezcki (119) won by forfeit.
The Martians earned eight pinfall victories against Utica Ford, as Hopkins (160), March (171), Jeremy Gauthier (189), Garr (103), Weber (112), Weil (125), Lovell (140) and Brad Armstrong (145) took down their opponents.
Goodrich also swept both their foes in a GAC meet Jan. 25, defeating Byron 66-10 and LakeVille 66-18.
