Icers leave Clio out in the cold

The Oxford hockey team picked up its first victory in the Flint Metro League on Saturday with a convincing 6-2 win over Clio.
With a little luck the Cats could easily be 3-0 in FML play after losing an overtime game, 4-3, to Lapeer East and dropping a close contest to Fenton, 4-2.
Junior Alex Hoffman has been an offensive force for the Wildcats, scoring eight goals in the three games, including four against Clio.
Coach Dave Hague said he has seen improvement in his Wildcats.
‘All games have been very competitive and have gone down to the wire. We’re learning to win and coming around,? he said.
In the Clio contest, Hoffman scored his first goal of the game only seven seconds into the contest. He took the opening face-off, moved past Clio defenders and deposited the goal. He added three more goals.
Johnny Thompson scored two goals for Oxford, while Justin Zigelbaur had three assists and Captain Mike Jacovetti added two assists against the Mustangs.
Hoffman scored two goals against Fenton, while Shawn Mattison and Jacovetti added assists.
Hague said the contest was close but the Tigers added an empty net goal late to secure the 4-2 victory.
Hoffman scored two goals against East in the 4-3 overtime loss. Jacovetti netted one goal and added two assists. Zigelbaur, Anthony Seferian, and Brian Simpson all picked up assists.
East won the contest with 36 seconds left in overtime.
