Brandon’s Bilkos advances to national Optimist golf tourney

Brandon’s Ryan Bilkos will have some good summer stories to tell his classmates when school resumes.
Bilkos, 15, who will be a sophomore next year at Brandon High School, finished in second place at the state Optimist Golf Tournament June 27 at Elks Highland Country Club in Grand Rapids, shooting a round of 74.
By virtue of his second place finish, Bilkos earned the right to compete in the International Optimist Golf Tournament July 21-26 at the Professional Golfers Association National Resort & Spa in West Palm Beach, FL.
Bilkos, who was a member of the BHS varsity golf team last season, said the conditions at Elks Highland were good.
‘It’s a pretty tight course,? he said. ‘It’s a country club, so the greens were in pretty decent shape.?
The PGA National Resort & Spa has hosted the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, and from 1982-2000, the PGA Seniors Championship.
