Brandon seniors get in shape with outdoor activities

About a year ago, Martha Tooley saw a need for Brandon Township seniors to take part in outdoor activities.
With that in mind, Tooley, the director of the Brandon Township Senior Center, 345 Ball Street, Ortonville, planned a couple weekly sports ? bocce ball and tennis ? to get Brandon seniors out of the Senior Center and into the spring and summer weather.
‘I started them over a year ago because we were looking for more active events for seniors to take part in,? Tooley said.
Outdoor tennis is placed each Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on the tennis courts at Varsity Drive, while bocce ball will be expanding from its normal 12:30 p.m. slot on Mondays to include a 10:30 a.m. session. Those games are played in the yard behind the Senior Center.
Tooley said between 2-6 people take part in the weekly tennis games, while between 4-8 people participate in the weekly bocce ball games.
