Party store fire appears intentional

Goodrich – The case isn’t closed, but last December’s party store fire may not have been accidental, say investigators.
Atlas Township firefighters were alerted to a fire around 8:45 p.m. Dec. 14, 2004 at the Family Party Store at 8186 S. State Road in Goodrich. After leaving the scene around 11:30 p.m., they were again alerted to a fire at the same address at 5:37 a.m. Dec. 15, 2004.
Because of a backlog of fires, it may be months before the investigation is closed, says Specialist Sgt. Jeff Boyer of the Michigan State Police Saginaw post.
The store has been boarded up since the fire, which left the structure with interior and exterior damage.
‘I can’t say yet this wasn’t an intentionally set fire,? said Boyer.
‘It appears it was helped being started. As to who was involved, I can’t yet say.?
