Dog walking still up in the air

A vote to keep dogs out of Children’s Park was split 3-3 by village council members on June 13, thus failing due to a lack of majority.
Lake Orion Village Council members have been considering the idea because of worries over allowing dogs in the park where children are playing. Dogs are already banned from Green’s Park on M-24.
Other village parks have designated areas posted where dogs are allowed.
Councilman Tom Albert believes people walking dogs on leashes should be able to pass through Children’s Park on South Broadway.
Council president Bill Siver took exception to the proposed ordinance wording, ‘except for leader dogs for the blind and police dogs, animals are not allowed to be in Green’s and Children’s Park.?
Siver pointed out leader dogs for the blind is a specific organization in Rochester and a better general wording for the ordinance would be ‘service dogs.?
The ordinance amendment involving dogs will more than likely come back for another vote when the wording is changed.
