Oakland Schools budget not our job

A resolution approving or not approving Oakland Intermediate School’s proposed 2005-06 budget isn’t sitting too well with Lake Orion School Board members.
They ended up disapproving the resolution on May 11.
According to LO Superintendent Dr. Craig Younkman, county school boards, by law, are now required to pass this type of resolution.
Younkman believes the law bypasses the democratic process. ‘We elect officials and then we should let them do their job,? he said.
Board members said they’ve only had two weeks to look at the proposed budget, they weren’t qualified to make any decision on the budget and described the process as cumbersome and meaningless.
‘We’ve had no input, not enough narrative for or against this budget,? board member Bill Walters said.
The intermediate school district must pass a budget by June 30.
‘Governing boards are responsible (for budgets). Oakland Schools are responsible for this, not the Lake Orion School Board,? Jim Weidman wrote in a memo. He was absent from the meeting.
