When Dr. John Khoury, Jr., D.D.S., finished dental school, he knew he wanted to open up a small practice with personal patient care near his hometown of Lake Orion.
Dr. Khoury opened the Khoury Dental Center on Lapeer Road in Oxford seven months ago, after graduating from the University of Detroit-Mercy last May.
“I grew up in Lake Orion,” he says. “I went to high school at Bishop Foley, and I did my undergraduate work at Western Michigan University.”
Dr. Khoury sees patients of all ages, and says that having recently finished his dental training, he is up to date on all the latest technology that is available.
Dr. Khoury and his staff offer cleanings, crown and bridge work, root canals, dentures and extractions.
Dr. Khoury is certified in Invisalign, which is an invisible way to straighten teeth as opposed to traditional braces.
Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable aligners. Invisalign uses the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, and translates the doctor’s instructions into a series of precisely customized aligners.
Each set is worn for about two weeks, moving the teeth gradually until the result is achieved.
Only a doctor like Dr. Khoury, who is trained and certified in Invisalign, can offer this treatment.
Dr. Khoury considers himself a “family dentist,” and said he uses the “Tell-Show-Do” method for working on his youngest patients.
“You tell them what you are going to do, and then you show them, on their hand,” he says. “That calms them down.”
Dr. Khoury also offers cosmetic dentistry services, including whitening and repairing gaps in the teeth.
“Our main focus is really taking care of the person,” he says. “We don’t rush. We have a small practice so we can take our time and offer more personal service.”
Some of the technology that Dr. Khoury uses includes the ultrasonic cleaner, which provides a thorough cleaning, while decreasing the scraping on the teeth that some patients might find unpleasant.
His office also uses digital radiography, which decreases the radiation by 80 percent.
“We have a lot of new products and equipment that we are using here,” Dr. Khoury says.
Khoury Dental Center is a member of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce, and the local BNI group.
Dr. Khoury is a member of the Michigan Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.
He is also a member of the Oakland County Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Khoury Dental Center is located at 352 N. Lapeer Road in Oxford, just past McDonald’s.
