Are you caring for an elderly parent, an autistic child or someone with disabilities? Need a break?
Mindset Management, Inc. provides respite care in your home for the elderly, as well as children and adults who have developmental disabilities or mental illness.
Kim Bishop of Mindset Management, Inc. owns and operates the Nature’s Way Adult Foster Care Home, located at 651 State Park Road. She is licensed to care for 20 residents at the 4,000 square foot home that sits on 3 acres. The home is currently full and vacancies are few and far between.
Wanting to help as many people as possible, Bishop has expanded into respite care. She has five staff members who are trained in first aid and CPR and will come to the homes of individuals who are caregivers for those with special needs. Respite care is available every day of the week for a minimum of four hours each visit and can be done for an entire weekend if needed. The direct support professionals are also trained in nutrition, effective communication and behavior management for the highest-quality care. ‘It’s hard work to care for someone 24/7,? said Bishop, who has a brother with disabilities and has 22 years of experience working in group homes. ‘Everyone needs a break sometimes.?
Bishop purchased the foster care home in Brandon Township in January 2004 from Bill and Joanie Hickey who had owned it for over 35 years. When she first met the Hickeys at a seminar and learned the home was for sale, Bishop said she laughed, thinking she wouldn’t be able to do it. But soon after she saw a banner at her church that said ‘Never let go of your dreams.? She hasn’t.
‘So many good things have happened since I’ve come here,? said Bishop, who renamed the home Nature’s Way, completed several renovations, and loves caring for the residents who are grateful ‘I was meant to be here.?
The home’s residents range in age from 35-80 years-old. Most have a form of mental illness such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder. Some are developmentally disabled.
The motto of Mindset Management, Inc. is ‘When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.? Bishop and her staff excel at caring for the physical, emotional and recreational needs of the individuals who reside at the foster care home, as well as those to whom they care for in their own homes.
Bishop regularly receives calls from people inquiring if there are openings available at the home. She regrets having to tell them no, but hopes that by offering respite care, she can help more people
‘I hope to be able to reach out to more individuals who need care,? Bishop said. ‘I know how much better people feel because the burden has been lifted, for even a small amount of time.?
