Following an extensive discussion among Addison Township board members, a split vote was settled by Clerk Pauline Bennett in favor of advertising for a replacement for the recently-vacated clerk’s position in the Building Department.
Teresa Gilliam resigned as clerk Jan. 18.
In a Jan. 10 letter to Supervisor Bob Koski, Gilliam stated that although she enjoyed working in her position, due to outside circumstances, she was taking a full-time position elsewhere.
The clerk’s position was originally created to handle the Building Department’s increasing needs. Gilliam was hired for the part-time position in 2001.
Although the wages for the position are part of the current budget, in the wake of further potential cuts, board members questioned the fiscal discretion of replacing the Building Department clerk before adoption the 2005-06 budget.
Currently, all township staff members are pitching in to handle the clerk’s workload.
The board directed Koski to review applications submitted for the position, but a decision to actually hire someone will not be made until after the March budget hearing. Trustee John Stuphin suggested the board draft a certificate of recognition for the work Gilliam has done. Further discussion of whether the position will be added to the 2005-06 budget will take place at a Feb. 23 meeting.
