The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of suspected food tampering on Jan. 27, after a man reported that someone had been putting bleach in his beverages.
The 20-year-old Pontiac man, who was listed as the victim in an OCSD report, is a deaf mute, and communicated with the deputy via sign language and writing answers to written questions.
The man shares a residence in the Sycamore Creek Apartments on Baldwin Road with a 40-year-old Orion man.
The victim told the deputy that he believed his wife’s girlfriend was putting bleach in his pop. He said the 40-year-old woman is the significant other of his wife, from whom he is separating and is not living with.
He told the deputy both his wife and the girlfriend were also deaf mutes.
The man showed the deputy bottles that he thought had been contaminated, and the deputy said they smelled like they had bleach mixed in them.
The victim doesn’t’t believe his roommate had done it, and said he had not drank any of the pop, only tasted it. He refused medical attention at the time.
The deputy confiscated the bottles and the bleach in the apartment, and told the man not to drink or eat anything without smelling it first.
