It was a close, tough game for Oxford icers against Brandon last week, but three quick shots in the third period ended a tie, and gave Brandon the 5-2 win.
‘We had seven freshman dressed against a team that was almost all seniors,? said Oxford Head Hockey Coach Dave Hague. ‘That was a pretty impressive game for us.?
Brandon is tough team with a league record of 8-1.
In the first period the Black Hawks opened the game with the first goal at 2:08 and ended the period 2-1.
However, persistence by the young Wildcats tied the game 2-2 five minutes into the second period. The score remained unchanged until late in the third period.
Senior Sean Degler lead the team in scoring points while Hague credits freshmen Shaun Armstrong and Justin Ziegelbaur for assists, while senior Mike Stechschulte worked the ice to guard the net.
‘We’re right there in a lot of good games,? said Hague. ‘We’ve had a slow start, but in all honesty there is nothing but good things going on for the team.?
‘It’s got a very bright future,? he added.
Oxford’s next big game is 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Lapeer West.
