Groveland Twp.-Once again the Michigan Department of Transportation will conduct a preliminary study of the intersection of Oakwood Road and M-15 for a potential of a traffic light.
Ahmad J. Azmoudeh, operations engineer from the Oakland Transportation Service Center, a division of the Michigan Department of Transportation said on Monday that during the first week of January data will be collected from the intersection.
‘The brief on site study will be used to determine if we need conduct another full study,? said Azmoudeh. ‘The intersection has been looked at a number of times. So far it did not meet the criteria for a light.?
The township requested the study after the number of crashes at the intersection increased.
According to data received from Traffic Improvement Association (TIA). Between 2000 and 2004, 98 accidents occurred at the intersection which includes 16 in 2004. Both Brandon and Groveland townships along with the Village of Ortonville are all members of the Traffic Improvement Association, which provides traffic data to municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and school districts in order to assist in solving community traffic problems.
