Home cooking was very friendly to the Goodrich hockey team.
In a pair of games Dec. 17-18 at Ice Mountain Sports Complex in Burton, the Martians scored two wins, defeating Oxford 5-2 on Dec. 17 and Linden 5-1 on Dec. 18.
Forward Max Hawkins made the difference against Linden, scoring four goals to lead Goodrich to the win.
The Martians jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, as Zack Pernack found the net. Goodrich then pulled ahead 2-0 in the second period on Hawkins? first goal of the game.
After Linden scored in the second, Hawkins scored three straight goals in the third as the Martians pulled away for the win.
Goalie Brad Smith stopped 28-of-29 shots (96.6 percent) for the Martians.
Against Oxford, the Martians again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period, as defenseman Travis Wandell connected for Goodrich.
After the Wildcats scored a power play goal in the second period, the Martians came roaring back with two goals to take a 3-1 lead, as Powers and Brian Van Kuren lit the lamp for Goodrich. Oxford scored a goal toward the end of the second to cut the Goodrich lead to 3-2.
However, the Martians pulled away in the third with goals by Locke and Powers, sealing the win. Smith stopped 21-of-23 shots (91.3 percent) for the Martians.
