Goodrich’s girls cross country team more than held their own against some of the best teams in the Midwest.
Five runners scored to lead the Martians to a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Meet of Champions in Hilliard, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 11. Goodrich finished with 172 points, nearly 100 behind first-place Clarkston, which finished with 76.
Bowling Green (Ohio) finished second at the meet, while Cincinnati St. Ursula took third.
According to Goodrich coach John Shaw, this was the first time a Michigan Division 3 school had ever been invited to the meet. The Martians showed they belonged, beating out such powerhouse schools as Rockford, Milford, Saline, East Grand Rapids, and Cincinnati Colerain.
‘We beat schools overall that you wouldn’t believe,? Shaw said. ‘That was just a fantastic day for us.?
Goodrich senior Janee Jones finished fifth overall with a time of 18:40 to lead the Martian contingent. Other Goodrich runners placing at the meet were Kayla O’Mara (27th, 19:44), Kaitlin O’Mara (41st, 20:04), Kelsey Meyers (42nd, 20:05), and Kelsey Krych (57th, 20:21).
