During the September 9 regular meeting of the Addison Township Board of Trustees, several actions were taken and resident comments were heard:
n The township board unanimously approved the purchased of a 30-foot, bronze finish flag pole for $1,499 from Star’s And Stripes. The flag pole comes with a 6×10 American flag, a 3×5 Fire Service flag and a two year guarantee. The pole will be located in the ‘Memorial Designated? area at Station One on Rochester Rd. near the Village of Leonard.
n The board approved by a unanimous vote the purchase of two 48-inch mobile hose racks for Addison Twp. Fire Station One at the total cost of $1,208 from Gear Grid. The hose racks currently owned by the department at Station Two in Lakeville are ‘permanently attached to the walls and are not constructed to hold modern 4-inch large diameter hoses.? Fire Chief George Spencer requested the mobile racks to ensure ‘easy maintenance and cleaning? of the equipment.
n Residents once again spoke during public forum concerning noise from a private shooting range owned by Noble Rd. resident Jerry Barnhart.
Ray Rd. resident Cindy Nieman took a moment to compliment Addison Twp. Substation Commander Sgt. Pete Burkett for his work on any complaints he has received. She also spoke to the board about, and delivered a copy, of a petition signed by local residents regarding the gun fire in the area. In addition, she did state that the noise level has gone down since her first comments to the board in July.
‘I’m cautiously optimistic that it will continue to improve,? she said to board members.
Hosner Rd. resident Robert Keller confirmed that the noise levels have decreased and he is pleased that the change has occurred; however, he cautioned that he would return to the board again if the repeated gun fire returns.
‘I want the board to know that we’re going to persist with this if it starts up again,? he stated during public forum. ‘I’m going to be Hurricane Bob going down Noble Rd.?
n The board passed a resolution approving the millage rates to be levied Dec. 1 for township property owners:
? Township Operating at 1.41 mills (1.0936 after rollback)
? Fire Capital at .50 of a mill (.4555 after rollback)
? Fire Capital at .25 of a mill (.2277 after rollback)
? Fire Operating at .75 of a mill (.6498 after rollback)
? Fire Operating at .75 of a mill (.5817 after rollback)
? Fire Operating at .75 of a mill (.7017 after rollback)
? Police at 2.50 mills (1.9393 after rollback)
? Police at 1.00 mill (.9357 after rollback)
? Library Operating at .75 of a mill (.5817 after rollback)
The fire operating millage approved in November of 2000 (.75 mills currently rolled back to .6498 mills) is up for renewal during this year’s November elections. The vote will be for renewing the existing millage, not on creating a new one.
