Varsity Soccer ties up FML record 1-1

The Oxford kickers managed to tie up their Flint Metro League record 1-1 after defeating the Holly Bronchos 2-0 on Sept. 1. The team stands overall 3-2.
The match-up remained even, and scoreless, until the second half when Oxford midfielder Francesco Paese scored the first goal of the night. Zac Wasylyna scored the last goal of the game on a pass from forward David Kourtjian..
‘Oxford was playing very well, breaking through Holly’s defense on numerous occasions,? said Coach John Thaler.
Thaler added that the Bronchos had a few chances to score, but could put the ball past goalie Shane Rondy. This game marked Rondy’s first shutout of the season.
Holly’s minimal shots on goal were limited by the Wildcat’s strong defense – including players Mark Jones, Alex Austin, Erik Anderson and Josh DuVal – who controlled the game from the back.
The Wildcats took to the field again after the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 7 for their third FML match-up against Fenton. The team then continues their league competition with a game against Lapeer East on Sept. 9 and one against Brandon on Sept. 13. All of the games are scheduled away.
Oxford will return to their home field on Sept. 22 to begin their second round of FML competition against Linden.
