Ortonville – Summer is in full swing, the hot rods are rolling and the streets of downtown will be closed on August 8.
Hosted by the Downtown Development Authority and the Village of Ortonville, the second annual Street Machine Super Show will take place on the streets of downtown.
Church Street will be closed from Mill to South Street and lined with sparkling, gleaming road treasures.
Super Show organizer Dave Bonner said depending on the weather, the second annual Street Machine Show is going to top last year’s debut.
‘The feedback from the car owners from last year’s show was that it was an excellent show and a lot of them want to come back,? said Bonner. ‘We are anticipating a super show.?
Last year, despite sporadic rain, more than 130 entrants polished their perfect street cruisers and lined the streets of Ortonville for a day of ‘ohhs and ahhhs? at the first annual Street Machine Super Show.
To tunes from the 50’s and 60’s spectators gobbled more than 45 pounds of brats, 230 hot dogs, and 25 pounds of home made hamburger while delighting in happy reflections of antique trucks, hoggyist Harleys, and stock or muscle cars, displayed along the downtown side walks.
Trophies will be awarded to original classics from 1900 to 1949 and from 1950 to 1981. Street Machine trophies will be awarded for 1969 classics or older and 1970 and newer.
Trophy winning Street rods will be awarded to pre-1949 rollers and other categories are custom, factory muscle original, pro street, original and custom trucks, sports and kit cars, and motorcycles.
Dashboard plaques and lunches will be given to entrants and spectators are invited to vote for the ‘Best of Show, ? which is accompanied by a $400 tire certificate.
Cruisers and cruise watchers can expect an added event of radio controlled nitro-driven championship races sponsored by HobbyTown USA.
Bonner said HobbyTown representatives will be on hand to give demonstrations and answer questions of race enthusiasts.
The races will be held in front of the Ortonville Post Office at noon.
Another new attraction to the show is a moon walk for the kids.
Bonner said the DDA is still looking for volunteers to cook, observe the rods, and parking.
Entrant raffle thank you gifts are still needed from area businesses.
