Ortonville- In a foreclosure offer, the village council approved a $600 purchase of one acre located on Kearsley Creek, south of Church Street.
‘The parcel adjoins what we currently own,? said Village Manager Paul Zelenak, who added that the village property is landlocked and the purchase will allow access to the four acres dedicated to the village for park use.
‘It’s an opportune time to purchase it while it’s in default, plus it’s an opportunity to move forward on advanced planning (in line with the Capital Improvement Plan).
As the property was in foreclosure for property taxes, the village was offered, by the state, the Second Right of Refusal for purchase.
Zelenak says the plan is to someday use the piece for easement access to the landlocked village acreage. In addition, the one acre strip is adjacent to the old rail road bed, which is a Detroit Edison easement.
