Softball stands 12-19 overall

The Oxford Varsity Softball Team is keeping things short and sweet as they prepare to go into district competition with a 12-19 overall record.
The ladies lost on May 20 to the Fenton Tigers 5-3 and 5-0. Losing pitcher Amber Cervantez pitched both games allowing ten hits total. Game one saw the ladies struggling defensively with seven errors. The Wildcats weren’t even able to pull themselves from the hole offensively – the only Oxford hits were in game one from Shannon Gerbe, Jessica Anhel and Ali Belmonte.
After a break due to Lakeville Tournament’s cancellation, the Lady Wildcats regrouped on May 24 to defeat the Holly Bronchos 6-0 and 4-3.
Game One saw Cervantez pitching a textbook game with only three hits and no runs. Senior Jenni Rhodes shone offensively in the top of the fourth when she squeezed in Megan Bono to bring the Wildcat lead to 3-0. Scoring the additional runs were Amanda Crump and Bono with two each.
In game two, the Lady Cats shown defensively with only two errors for the seven innings. Offensively, Gerbe went two for two with two runs scored; Anhel hit two for three with two runs scored and one RBI; and Bono went two for three with two RBIs.
The Oxford ladies have completed regular season and begin district competition this past Tuesday at Birch Run High School. They go into the matchup 4-6 in the league and 12-19 overall.
