Despite the best efforts of sophomore Laura Kwiatkowski, the Brandon girls golf team came up short against neighboring Oxford.
The host Blackhawks dropped a 197-208 matchup against the Wildcats May 17 at Goodrich Country Club. The loss dropped Brandon’s record to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in Flint Metro League action.
Kwiatkowski earned medalist honors as the meet’s leading golfer, shooting a round of 40. Others contributing to the Brandon cause were Tiffany Harding (50), Becca Scherer (58), and Casey Nesterowich (60).
In the second of two Flint Metro League tournaments this season, the Blackhawks finished fourth out of six teams competing at Sugarbush Golf Course May 13.
The Blackhawks finished with a team score of 443, which left them tied with Fenton. However, the Tigers earned the third-place finish, since their fifth-ranked golfer (Jessie Kane, 118) had a better score than Brandon’s fifth-ranked golfer (Harding, 126).
Linden won the tournament with a score of 367, while Oxford finished second (422).
Kwiatkowski was the only Blackhawk to place in the top 10 individually, finishing third overall with a score of 92. Kwiatkowski shot a 43 on the front nine and 49 on the back nine.
Other Brandon golfers figuring in the team’s scoring were Scherer and Nesterowich (114 apiece) and Katie Koontz (123).
