Preliminary count warrants traffic signal study

Goodrich – A preliminary traffic count at M-15 and Hegel Road’s east section is high enough that the state will conduct another traffic light study.
‘Lansing gets so many requests for traffic signals that we do a preliminary study at the TSC (Transportation Service Center) level,? said Steve Pethers, transportation engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation office in Davison.
Recently released numbers from a March 11, 2004 count were marginally high enough to warrant state-level investigation, said Pethers, who could not estimate when MDOT would conduct the study.
The intersection’s average daily traffic count of vehicles turning from Hegel Road onto M-15 was 2,884, which met the minimum count of 2,240 in a area where the speed limit is 45 mph or higher.
‘We’ve been talking about a light up there forever,? said Goodrich Village Administrator Jakki Sidge, who initiated the preliminary MDOT study when the village conducted its own informal traffic count last fall. ‘I’m just happy they did it.?
