Lake Orion girls basketball win on senior night, boys lose second district tournament game

Lake Orion High School’s girls varsity basketball team defeated Stoney Creek, 59-44, on Feb. 25 while the boys team lost to Waterford Mott, 41-40, in the MHSAA tournament on Feb. 26.

It was senior night for the girls and the final game of the their regular season. The Lady Dragons finished the season 12-10, and broke a three-game losing streak with the win.
Senior Izzy Wotlinski finished with a 24 point and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Senior Charlotte Peplowski scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Kara Veeder scored 12 and junior Dani Heck scored three. Senior Amelia Guccione also scored three points and collected eight rebounds.
The girls play their first MHSAA District 27 tournament game tonight against Avondale (18-4) at Clarkston high school at 7 p.m. If victorious, the Dragons would play the winner of Clarkston’s (15-7) game against Waterford Kettering (10-12) today in the district final on Friday at Clarkston High School.
The boys were knocked out of their MHSAA District 27 tournament with a 41-40 loss against Waterford Mott last Wednesday.
The Dragon boys finished their season in second place in the OAA White behind Oxford with a 16-8 overall record and an 11-3 conference record. The boys won three of their season’s last four games. Their longest winning streak reached nine games from Jan. 7 to Jan. 30.
