ORION TWP. — The Lake Orion Lions Club is once again holding its annual Christmas Baskets program, collecting toys and donations to help out area residents this holiday season.
Last year the Lions delivered food and toys to about 240 families and 70 low-income seniors, said Dave Tucker, organizer of the Christmas Basket program.
“The Lake Orion Lions Club needs donations of new and unused toys, gift cards and cash to support our annual Christmas Baskets program, which provides local families and low-income seniors with some holiday help the week before Christmas,” Tucker said.
Toy and monetary donations can be dropped off at Liberty Way Realty on M-24, or at Wonder Cleaners on M-24. Donation checks should be made out to Lake Orion Lions Club. The Lions Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so all donations are tax deductible, Tucker said.
Monetary donations can also be made on the Lake Orion Lions Club website, lakeorionlions.org, by scrolling down the homepage to the button that says “Make a Donation to the 2024 Christmas Basket Program.”
Donation checks payable to Lake Orion Lion Club can also be mailed to Lake Orion Lions Club, P. O. Box 255, Lake Orion, MI 48361.
On Dec. 20, the Lions Club also needs volunteers to help sort donated food items and pack boxes with food and kids’ gifts on a per family basis.
“We also need volunteer delivery drivers with helpers to deliver these baskets and boxes of food between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday,” Tucker said. “If you can find some time, and bring your families and friends.”
Sorting, packing and loading up baskets in cars to be delivered will be in the CERC gym, 455 E. Scripps Rd. Anyone who would like to volunteer can call the Lions Club at 248-975-6378.
