Lake Orion High School’s girls varsity basketball team hit the court taking on the Rochester Falcons and Stoney Creek Cougars.
On Feb. 14, the ladies headed to Cougar country to take on fellow OAA Red competitors, falling 47-36.
Leading scorers for the Dragons were senior captains Maddie Ebbert with 10 points and three assists, Chloe Wiegers with six points and two assists and Taylor Dinda with four points and four rebounds.
Also adding to the Dragon tally was Audrey Wischmeyer, Alana McGinnis, Kylie Heck and Ryann Pawlaczyk all with three points. Fontana Blackney and Carmen Huertas each had two points.
The Dragons stayed on the road, heading to Rochester on Feb. 16. The Lake Orion team headed into the game just behind the Falcons in the OAA Red standings (Lake Orion 8-3, Rochester 9-2) and in the overall standings (Lake Orion 15-4, Rochester 16-3).
Despite being short-handed with four Lake Orion players out for the game, including Ebbert, a consistent leading scorer for the Dragons, Lake Orion pulled out a close 45-42 victory over the Falcons.
This is the second time Lake Orion team has faced Rochester and had a bit of a comeback story, after the Dragons fell to the Falcons by just three points back in December at the Little Caesars Arena.
Leading scorers in the winning effort were Wischmeyer with 11 points and four rebounds, Wiegers with 10 points and three assists, Heck with nine points and three steals. Dinda added four points, four rebounds and three assists. Charlotte Peplowski contributed four points and three steals and Pawlaczyk had four points and five rebounds.
The Dragons are now 9-3 in the OAA Red and 16-4 overall.
