9 candidates in primary election for county commissioner

Voters in Orion Township, Lake Orion and Oakland Township will go to the polls on May 13 to vote for the candidates they would like to see in a special election to elect a new county commissioner for the third district.
Voters will choose between five Republican and four Democratic candidates in the primary election: Doug Brown (R), Steven Drakos (R), Niles Olson (R), Delores Puroll-Myslakowski (R), Eric Wilson (R), Dan Dewey (D), Kevin Laidler (D), Daniel Myslakowski (D) and J. Robert Tribula (D).
The election is being held to find a replacement for former county commissioner Larry Obrecht, who vacated the position in March to take over as head of Oakland County Animal Control.
A general election will be held on June 17, when voters will be asked to choose between the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate chosen in the primary election. The Orion Township Clerk’s Office is open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays for absentee ballots. The absentee voter must be the person filling out the application.
