According to documents obtained from local public safety agencies, public service calls in Oxford Township and the Village of Oxford decreased in 2007, while service calls in Addison Township increased.
Service calls to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Addison substation increased 3.7 percent to 2,921, although some crimes saw decreases in occurrence.
There were only two criminal sexual conduct crimes (CSC), 24 incidents of malicious destruction of property (MDOP), 26 larcenies and 20 home invasions. All of those numbers dropped either by half or more from years past, except for traffic crashes, which rose from 199 to 218.
Oxford Township’s service calls have decreased by 8.4 percent from 2006. The substation received 6,260 calls, which is 574 less than the previous year.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to or investigated 212 larcenies, 122 MDOPs, 50 home invasions, 537 traffic crashes and five CSCs in Oxford Twp. Although their service calls have decreased, they did see a rise in certain crimes, like larcenies.
As of Dec. 26, service calls to the Oxford Village Police Department totaled 6,671, which is a 6.4 percent decrease from 2006.
Village police responded to 37 MDOPs, 32 larcenies and 11 home invasions and two CSCs in the village.
The Oxford Fire Department saw an increase in service calls in 2007. As of Dec. 26, the department had 284 fire calls out of the total 1,258. In 2006, the department had 1,072 runs.
Advanced Life Support saw 974 medical runs and sometimes, according to EMS Coordinator Nancy Hunger, responded to as many as eight calls in one day.
‘It’s been very good. My paramedics are so aggressive,? she said. ‘There’s a basic level of service and then there are the paramedics that do a little extra.?
Hunger attributes the increase in calls because they can now transport patients from local doctor’s offices as well as the POH Medical Center-Oxford to larger hospitals for medical treatment.
‘We’ve had a lot of good response from the community,? she said.
Fire and medical calls to the Addison Township Fire Department have also increased from last year.
As of Dec. 26, the department had 14 fire calls, 380 medicals and 77 miscellaneous calls for a total of 471 runs. In 2006, the department had 405 runs.
Editor’s Note: The total number of specific crimes includes those investigations that were unfounded. For instance, deputies could have been called to investigate a home invasion, but only a certain number of them were actual crimes. The numbers obtained from the sheriff’s department only cover incidents recorded from Jan. 1, 2007 through mid-October because November and December are not completed yet.
