Oxford’s Brooke Kovacic continues to put exclamation points on her cross country career, this time by leading the Wildcat ladies to the state Division 1 regional title last week.
It was the first-ever regional title for the Oxford girls in the Division 1 group.
Kovacic finished second in the race but ran an 18:07 ahead of teammates Jenna Feeny, who placed ninth, and Hannah Long who was 12th to lead their team. Sabrina Smith was 17th, and Reilly Squarcia was 25th to help the Wildcat’s team effort.
Oxford has 65 points to win the meet, over second place Clarkston.
Coach Matt Johnson was happy with the showing.
‘This was a major win for us,? he said. ‘This was our best of the season so far.?
With the state finals scheduled for Nov 3 at Brooklyn, one more great effort is hopefully in the works.
The Oxford boys also had a good showing, finishing seventh at the regionals. Ryan Gillespie finished 14th while Joey Ufolla was 21st to lead the Wildcats.
