The Clarkston Community School Board of Education has three seats up for election this May.
Vice President Stephen Hyer, Treasurer Ronald Sullivan and Trustee Barry Bomier are all running to keep their current seats.
Stephen Hyeris completing his first term on the board. As the youngest board member, Hyer said he remained an active listener and chose not to speak much. Now, four years later, Hyer has grown with the board and enjoys the positive aspects to his title ? student progress and recognition, and faculty recognition. On the other hand, Hyer believes the downside is budget issues and making a dollar go as far as possible.
‘Sometimes it’s more work than others,? said Hyer. ‘I hope people can recognize the experience I have gained and that I can offer a lot in the next four years.?
Ronald Sullivan has served on the Clarkston Community School Board of Education for eight years. Before becoming a board member, Sullivan was involved in PTA and PTO. When his children were moved from Pine Knob Elementary to Clarkston Elementary, Sullivan became a board liaison, attending board meetings and reporting the information to the PTO members. Because Sullivan’s face was familiar he was prompted to run.
‘It has been a great experience,? said Sullivan. ‘I learned a lot and I hope my chances are good.?
Barry Bomier’s case is a little different. Originally, Tony Miller held a place on the board. After serving for a year, he resigned, and Bomier was appointed to the seat. The remaining duration of the 4-year seat is two years, and Bomier is running to finish out that time. Bomier was active in the PTA at Bailey Lake Elementary.
‘I am very pleased with my experience this year,? said Bomier. ‘I really appreciate that my input is valued and I hope the community can see that I am trying to do a good job.?
