On National Signing Day Groveland Township resident and Notre Dame Preparatory Senior Chad Powers, 17, signed a letter of intent to play football for Northwood University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Powers, a 6 foot-1 inch?205 pound inside linebacker played football four years for NDP will enroll in a dual major in international business and economics this fall.
‘I’m a little nervous to step up to the college ranks coming from a small Division 4 high school,? said Powers. ‘My football coach Kyle Zimmerman pushed me hard this past year. I had a knee injury in January 2009’three months of physical therapy and a lot of pain I was playing football again. Coach pushed me and our team hard and had us all working together.?
Powers will be a red-shirt freshman this fall.
‘That will give me more time to build up my strength and get ready for the college level.?
‘Finally, my parents were always there for me and believed that I could play college football. They stood up and supported me even in tough times.?
Chad Powers is the son of Christopher and Kara Powers.
