Looking for a special way to honor Mom? Well, Schenden’s Spas wants to recognize the most humorous mom, the most inspiring mom and the hardest working mom in a special Mother’s Day contest.
According to Schenden’s Spas Director of Business Development Sue Kinch, the spa is accepting 250-word essay nominations for each category. They have already received over 250 essays.
‘Every single entry talks about how moms put others before themselves,? Kinch said. ‘I think people jump at the chance to honor their mothers because sometimes it’s difficult to say ‘thank you, I appreciate all you do and I love you.??
According to Kinch, the Mother’s Day contest stems from an event the spa hosts every October to honor breast cancer survivors, a brainchild of Michael J. Schenden, MD, who is the chief of plastic surgery for William Beaumont Hospital in Troy.
‘Dr. Schenden specializes in aesthetic surgery and many years ago he thought it would be nice to host a free day at the spa for his patients who had breast reconstruction after battling breast cancer,? she said, noting that this tradition continues every October.
‘The Mother’s Day contest was a natural extension of wanting to do something nice for deserving women,? Kinch added.
According to Kinch, spa employees and representatives of the other businesses will sit together and read the nomination stories.
‘It is a long process,? Kinch said. ‘Our ‘yes? pile is always too big because there are so many deserving nominations.?
‘Last year for the breast cancer nominations there were many tears as we read the stories,? she added.
‘We ended up having to pick randomly from a stack of deserving nominations because we just couldn’t narrow it down to a reasonable number of winners.?
For this contest, the three winning mothers will win a day of relaxation at Schenden’s Spas; over night stay and breakfast at Troy Marriott; three month membership to Great Lakes Athletic Club; hair cut, style and mini highlights from Regina Paul Salons; 18 holes of golf with cart at The Myth Golf Course; personalized stationery from Ink & Paper; Legacy Keepers from Susan Hallmark; special occasion clothing rental from My Best Friend’s Closet; $50 gift certificate from Fingers and Forks personal chef; a tanning package from the Tan Company; financial counseling from Hallman Advisors; design consultation with Bytner Design Associates; and a one-year subscription to The Lake Orion Review,The Oxford Leader or The Clarkston News.
