MTA service, millage renewal discussed

Atlas Twp.- Questions regarding services provided by the Mass Transportation Authority in the area will be discussed at 7 p.m., May 17 during the township board meeting. MTA officials will provide information prior to an Aug. 3, renewal of.4 mill for MTA service. A residents with a home valued at $100,000 currently pays $20 per year for MTA service.
Robert Fay, MTA general manager said that while no fixed routes cross the township area residents can utilize the Grand Blanc Your Ride center.
‘We are unsure how many Atlas Township or Goodrich residents use MTA, but about 5,500 use the Grand Blanc center each month,? said Fay. ‘That number also includes the Grand Blanc area too.?
Township resident Fay said MTA provides a host of services county-wide and also transportation to Troy, Auburn Hills including Great Lakes Crossing, and even Saginaw.
MTA Assistant General Manager-Services Edgar Benning said many riders use the system traveling to and from work even for those working outside Genesee County.
‘We often fluctuate along with the economy,? said Benning. ‘As the price of gasoline goes up’our riders go up.?
In addition MTA provides a host of services to assist passengers, including a direct phone number to schedule rides and curb to curb Your Ride service to all residents where no fixed route service is provided.
General public pay $2.50 each way, those with an Americans with Disabilities Act card or ADA card, pay $1.50 each way.
