The American Legion Post 377 19 travel team has won six out of the eight games they played in the last two weeks.
They began last week splitting a double header against Troy’s Charles Edward Post 14 on Wednesday.
Troy’s pitchers Eric Cotton and Chris Gebara limited Chief Pontiac to five hits.
A shaky defense allowed Troy to score four runs in the third inning, and put them into the lead where they remained in control and won, 8-6.
Chief Pontiac came back in the second game and won in five innings, 16-6.
Zachary Kotz gave up three hits and a walk in the third inning to permit Troy to score four runs.
Chief Pontiac took advantage of Troy’s pitching and fielding errors to score 16 runs on 12 hits.
Steven Bazner produced four RBIs on three hits.
The boys continued on Friday and faced their strongest competition in their District 18 league, the Auburn Hills Bombers from American Legion Post 143.
Fans witnessed the battle of the pitchers, Joel Lange of Chief Pontiac and Caleb Tifft of the Bombers both struck out five, keeping the scoreboard tied at zero for the first three innings.
Steven Bazner walked up to the plate at the bottom of the fourth inning and hit a triple to the fence.
Drew Howard brought Bazner home and put Chief Pontiac on the board for one run.
Joey Preston worked a full count until he was walked.
With one hitter on a base, Nick Shamoun hit a double and brought Preston home for the second run of the game.
Lange gave up a hit to Cory Colucci in the top of the fifth inning.
Clayton Coleman then hit a triple and had one RBI to score Auburn Hill’s only run.
Chief Pontiac won, 2-1.
Sunday afternoon the Chief Pontiac team held a Sponsor Appreciation day and hosted a double-header against Livonia Post 32.
They won the first game in five innings, 13-3. Joel Lange was the winning pitcher during the game and struck out seven hitters.
Nick Shamoun and Drew Howard both racked up three RBIs each with Howard scoring three times and Shamoun twice.
They lost the second game to Livonia, 9-8.
Before the fourth of July holiday, Chief Pontiac beat Clarkston (14-3) and Waterford (7-5).
Chief Pontiac is currently first in their league with a 15-2 record.
Chief Pontiac’s home games are played at the Shufer Burns Memorial Field at the Chief Pontiac American Legion Post 377 at the south end of Mary Sue in Clarkston.
