Kickers are proving they are a forced to be reckoned with this season.
Within the first week of the girls soccer season, the varsity team has shut down two opponents.
Sophomore Lindsey Adams scored the Lady Wolves lone goal against Oxford on March 29. The girls made a total of 13 shots on the Wildcats? net.
Demaree Wells guarded Clarkston’s net.
‘It was a good game,? said Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach Sarah Wasilk.
The girls had their first win when they had their season opener against Waterford Mott on March 25.
Mott scored 17 minutes into the first half.
The lead was short-lived as Caitlin Kirby struck three minutes later and scored for Clarkston.
‘Both teams played well,? said Wasilk.
Wells had four saves during the night.
‘Our team had a stronger half,? said Wasilk, commenting on how Mikayla Ferer broke the tie in the second half, for the 2-1 win.
‘I think they relaxed a little bit,? said Wasilk about the difference between the halves. ‘It was the first game so they were excited and nervous. They got in their groove a little bit better the second half which made them play better.?
Though undefeated Wasilk saw places the girls can tweak as they go further into the season.
‘There are still a few things we need to work on and get worked out as a team. Overall I am happy with where we are at this point in the season,? said Wasilk.
The girls come back from break to play three games. The team had practice for the players who remained at home during the break. Other members were given a daily workout to follow while on vacation.
The outcome for the three games depends on how much work they put into the regiment while on spring break.
‘I hope they come back ready to play,? said Wasilk. ‘Last year they worked out and did well when they came back, but every year is different.?
