Ready. Set. Go!
Kids ran like mad around Lake Orion last week in the name of fitness and raising money for their schools.
On Thursday (Sept. 25), St. Joseph held its annual Maverick Marathon (see next page), which included an appearance by school mascot, Mavie the Maverick.
‘We’re trying to set a good example for the kids by keeping them active,? said Cheryl Warstler, the event’s coordinator. ‘The parents and grandparents all come to cheer them on.?
Warstler said the run raised around $10,000 last year for new playground equipment and recreational programs.
The students at Pine Tree Elementary weren’t left out on the ‘run.?
They took to the track on Friday (Sept. 26), for their annual Fun Run (below), now in its sixth year.
‘It promotes fitness for the kids and gets them involved in fundraising for the school,? said Kelly Snyder, who has headed up the run for the past two years.
According to Snyder, the kids raised $14,000 running last year.
‘It’s really just a great event,? she said.
