Downtown streets were filled with parade goers and floats who flocked to Clarkston to celebrate America’s 237th birthday on Independence Day, July 4.
Many headed over to Clintonwood Park after the parade for Independence Fest, an event featuring carnival rides, games and lots of food. Independence Fest ran all weekend long and also featured a craft show and a special area for toddler entertainment.
The parade route from St. Dan’s Catholic Church through downtown attracted thousands of attendees, with local leaders and elected officials waving to crowds as they strolled down city streets.
With the 2013 theme United We Stand, the parade featured 87 participants including area churches and organizations like the Lions, Team Rush, Clarkston Optimist, Knights of Columbus and more. Red Wings singer Karen Newman and Mrs. Michigan Laura Zdravkovski were among the special guests participating in the event.
Daughters of the American Revolution also passed out 10,000 American Flags to parade watchers. A.B.
