Mary Okolovitch, a former resident of Lake Orion for 23 years, celebrated her 100th birthday on Dec. 2 while visiting her son Michael and his wife Deborah in Ortonville.
Mary now resides in Port Charlotte, FL, having moved there five years ago from Pompano Beach.
Mary’s daughter Elaine and her husband Victor Claussen, son Michael and his wife Deborah, sister-in-law Ann Okolovitch and grandchildren Cristal and Gary Martin, Hope Pascoe, Mark Claussen, Allayna, Rob and Benjamin Schadel, Tonya, Eric, Tyler and Hannah Lewis and Andrew Okolovitch helped her celebrate.
Mary was born in Edwardsville, PA on Dec. 2, 1908 to Andrew and Eva Kromonga of Russia. She was the third of seven children of which Mary and 98-year-old sister Helen of PA remain.
On May 27, 1934, Mary married Michael. The couple had two children.
Mary and Michael moved to Lake Orion in 1950 and resided there until they relocated to Florida in 1973 to be closer to their daughter. They were married 69 years before Michael passed away in 2003.
Mary’s family says she is spry for her age and enjoys make-up and fashion. They know her as a wonderful homemaker who loved cooking delicious meals, especially desserts. She was also an avid gardener who loved colorful flowers. Mary was an active member of the Lake Orion Garden Club for many years where she and her husband hosted many fundraising events.
The couple lived a wonderful life in Lake Orion and today she enjoys her assisted living complex in Port Charlotte.
