Gary Lange Custom Carpentry

A visit to Gary Lange’s home can be both deceiving and entertaining.
One wall has outdoor-style siding which even features an eavestrough and downspout. Another has brick-style siding, while yet another looks like the exterior of an old-fashioned takeout restaurant.
A professional carpenter since 1971, Lange is an expert at traditional work such as trim, doors, windows, kitchen cabinets, mantles and decorative railings. In addition to those services, however, Lange offers a unique service for those who would like to turn a basement or a rec room into something special or even unusual.
‘I think these false store fronts can be a lot of fun,? said Lange. With use of quality building materials, authentic signs and various accessories available, his suggestions for home improvement include ideas from the seasonal to the silly.
One idea, for example, is to have the ‘storefront? look like a fitness center, he said. Upon opening the door, one could find a specialty mirror, like the fun house mirror at amusement parks. It is a contoured mirror which makes the legs appear to be 12 inches long and the torso three feet tall. It is always a great laugh.
While he is glad to offer ideas, he said the decision is ultimately up to the customer.
‘I want to give them what they want,? Lange said. ‘I would like to satisfy their needs.?
Lange started his career as an employee of a commercial building company. In 1979, he decided to take the risk and go into business for himself. He is a licensed builder, but prefers finished carpentry projects.
‘I like to be creative,? he said. ‘I’ve got all sorts of ideas. The possibilities are endless.?
According to his wife, Pat, Lange has had plenty of practice in their home of 11 years. To show the serious side of his skills, a kitchen cabinet door was converted into a beautiful woodgrain clock.
‘We moved in here and he changed every room in some way,? she said with a laugh.
His own name on his own business is a reminder of the need to provide quality workmanship.
‘I only have one name,? he said. ‘If I destroy that, then where am I??
