Kevin Rush, a former Atlas Township resident and a Flint area attorney for more than 21 years, announced his candidacy to replace 67th District Court Judge Richard Hughes of the Burton Division, who will retire this year. Hughes will turn 70 this year and under state must retire due to his age.
Rush, a township resident for about nine years in the 1990s, addressed the Atlas Township Board of Trustees on Tuesday night.
‘I have been working this position for many years,? said Rush, a 1978 Grand Blanc High School graduate who attended Arizona State University before studying law at Cooley Law School in Lansing.
‘I am completely qualified for this job’experienced people who have lived in the community should represent those constituents. There is nothing in a courtroom I have not done.?
Rush is married to Betty, who is an RN at Hurley Medical Center. They have two children, Rhiannon, 15, and Sierra, 14. The family currently lives in Burton.
In addition to Atlas Township and Goodrich, the division covers the communities of Burton, Richfield Township, Otisville, Davison, and Davison Township.
The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 3, followed by a general election on Nov. 2.
The non-partisan position is for six years.
