Club will erect flagpole

The Lake Orion Horseshoe Club has been given permission by village council members to install a flagpole at the horseshoe pits near the lower municipal parking lot, off Anderson Street.
The club wants to erect the 25-foot pole to honor the memory of one of its longtime members, Lori Brown. Plans are to put a small plaque on the pole.
Club members sought authorization from Village of Lake Orion officials because the courts are on village property.
Village council members in 1965 granted the club a permit to use a portion of village land for recreational purposes. Club members built and maintain the courts without any cost to the village.
