Dust off your kilt and grab your bag pipes, it’s time for the 2008 Scottish Festival to take over Canterbury Village for another Fourth of July weekend.
The annual event, which has been a staple of Canterbury Village every summer since it first opened its doors in 1994, is gearing up for another round of music, dancing and fun.
The festivities begin Saturday and run through Sunday with a variety of events geared toward people of all ages.
Gordon Hyslop, owner of Highland Fling, southeast Michigan’s only complete Scottish retailer which is housed in Canterbury Village and has been responsible for the Scottish Festival since the beginning, said he expects this year to be just as popular as years? past.
‘It’s a busy weekend,? Hyslop said. ‘It draws a pretty big crowd.?
However, like most people these days, Hyslop has taken into account the dire state of the economy.
‘You never quite know, the way things are right now with the price of gas and everything else, how far people are prepared to travel,? he said.
But for those who do make the trek this weekend, Hyslop said to expect everything from a bag pipe band performing to Scottish Highland dancers to traditional Scottish beer and food.
And admission is free.
‘It’s just an ethnic Scottish weekend,? he said.
Anyone with questions should call Canterbury Village at (248)391-1900.
