Oxford Community Schools is growing yet again.
Unofficial results from Count Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5 indicate the district is up approximately 272 students from last year, bringing the total number of students in the district up to 5,011.04.
Of the 5,011 students, 555 are Schools of Choice students, and 176.68 students enrolled in the district’s virtual academy.
According to the numbers, the biggest increase came at Daniel Axford Elementary, which saw a student increase of approximately 39.89 students. Lakeville Elementary saw the biggest decrease in students, as they were down 16 students from last year.
Approximately 1,466.52 students attend Oxford High School, an increase of 18.96 from last year, while 1,049 students attend Oxford Middle School, an increase of 12 from the 2010 count.
According to Linda Lewis, the communications coordinator for the school district, the numbers are ‘unaudited.?
‘This means that all paperwork has been submitted, all non-conventional students have been documented and all absences tracked and reported,? Lewis wrote in an email. ‘Oakland Schools auditors will now look at all that paperwork and do a ‘desk audit,? where they look for paperwork errors.?
‘Once that is completed, there is a ‘field audit? where the ISD comes to one or more schools and looks at all attendance records, student schedules and course information, etc…this entire process takes three months or so.?
Lewis noted the district will be releasing the audited numbers ‘when it becomes available.?
