Three 2003 Brandon High School Graduates have received AP Scholar Awards for achievements on the Advanced Placement exams. Lisa Thibodeau and Christina Via both scored in the top15 percent nationally in the College Board AP Scholar Award. In addition, Anna Stanzyk earned the National AP Scholar award with honors. The Advanced Placement Program is sponsored by the College Board and provides college level material through Advanced Placement courses. More than 635,000 students took 18,000 AP Exams in 2002
The Brandon High School Marching Band earned a superior rating at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Festival Oct. 11. The number one ranking in Division 1 was achieved at the Fenton competition, the fifth consecutive year for the band.
Sherryl McLaughlin, a special education teacher at Brandon High School for the past two years, accepted a position at Clarkston Schools as assistant director of Student Support Services.
The Brandon School Board approved an out-of-state field trip for the Brandon Middle School Band to Niagara Falls, Ontario in May, 2005.
The Brandon girls cross country team competed in their first-ever state meet Nov. 1 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. The Blackhawks finished 24th out of 27 teams at the Division 2 finals. Kayla Doan was the Blackhawks’ leading runner at the meet, finishing 108 overall with a time of 20:14.7. Kelsey Carmean was next, finishing 112 (20:16.7). Doan’s and Carmean’s times were the fourth and fifth highest, respectively, in Brandon history.
