A one-car accident on N. Washington Street. near East St. left a fire hydrant, utility pole and traffic sign all destroyed.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, when a 25-year-old Lake Orion woman lost control of her truck. According to the Oxford Village Police Report, the woman was traveling northbound on M-24 in the right lane when she hit her brakes and lost control on the wet roadway.
The report states the vehicle jumped the right curb; hit the fire hydrant, sign and utility pole; and finally came to rest in the front yard of 52 N. Washington. The fire hydrant was knocked off its base, the “No Parking” traffic sign had been knocked over and broken, and Detroit Edison was contacted to repair the broken pole and fallen wires.
The 25-year-old driver tested positive for intoxicants and was arrested for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor. She complained of pain in her right leg, but no visible injuries were present and she refused medical treatment.
Traffic on M-24 was temporarily blocked while a tow truck removed her vehicle from the N. Washington St. property.
Later at the Oxford Police Department, the Lake Orion woman told police “she wanted to kill herself,” and showed scarring from previous suicide attempts. Officers called American Medical Response, and the woman was transported to POH Hospital for treatment.
