Groveland Township—From his Groveland Township business Steve Nannoshi watched the Groveland Township Firefighters gather money in a fire boot at the intersection of Grange Hall Road and Dixie Highway.
“These guys were working hard to collect money from cars in that boot,” said Nannoshi, owner of two gas stations and a grocery store located on Dixie Highway in Groveland Township.
“I kept thinking, look what they are going through to collect money for new equipment.”
So Steve, along with his brothers who also work in the family business, decided to help, and contacted Steve McGee, Groveland Fire Chief.
“McGee told me that it would take years to get enough money for the new “Jaws of Life,” said Nannoshi.
“God has been very good to me and I felt we should help.”
As a result, the family donated the $18,000 to purchase the new equipment which was demonstrated in the parking lot on a used car at the Township Board meeting.
While his donation was greatly appreciated by the Groveland Fire Department and recognized by the Groveland Township Board at the meeting—two local girls have already benefited from the gift.
When the Groveland Township Fire and Rescue responded to an accident on Kier Road just east of Oakhill Road, at about 3:30 a.m., Sept. 3, a 1992 red Corsica was split into two sections, as a result of the impact.
Yet, thanks to a firefighters and the new Jaws of Life, the two female passengers were cut free from the twisted wreck.
The donation paid one more dividend as one of the passengers removed from the vehicle was later determined to be an employee of Nannoshi’s at his grocery store.
